Who these terms are with

Peep & Pen is published by Slate Mill Group. “We” and “us” below mean the publisher; “you” means anyone using the site.

What the content is

This site publishes buying guidance for backyard chicken keeping, assembled from manufacturers’ published specifications, figures published by university extension services and federal agencies, and arithmetic we perform on those figures and show the inputs for.

It is provided for general information. It is not professional advice, and specifically:

• It is not veterinary advice. Anything to do with a bird’s health beyond a minor visible injury is a matter for a veterinarian or your state poultry extension office.
• It is not legal advice. Where we cite law — for example the federal protections that apply to hawks and other migratory birds — we are pointing at primary sources, and state and local rules add restrictions we cannot enumerate.
• It is not a substitute for a product’s own manual or label. Where we describe a treatment or a piece of equipment, the manufacturer’s current label and instructions govern. If they differ from what we have published, follow them and please tell us.

Accuracy, and its limits

We work hard to be accurate: every figure is attributed, arithmetic shows its inputs, and the editorial policy commits us to correcting errors quickly and visibly.

Even so, specifications change without notice, manufacturers update products, prices move constantly, and links go dead. We make no warranty that everything here is current, complete or error-free, and you should verify anything that matters against the manufacturer’s own current documentation before buying or acting.

We are not the seller. Any purchase is a transaction between you and the retailer, governed by their terms, their pricing, their shipping and their returns policy. We have no involvement in it and cannot resolve a problem with an order.

We link to manufacturers, retailers, extension services and government agencies. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, their accuracy or their privacy practices.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site or from reliance on its content — including loss of livestock, property damage, or economic loss. Keeping animals involves judgment and risk that we are not in a position to assess from here.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Acceptable use

You may read, print and share links to anything on this site. Please do not:

• Republish substantial portions of the content as your own.
• Scrape the site at a volume that interferes with it working for other people.
• Use the content to train a model without attribution, or misrepresent it as tested.
• Attempt to interfere with the site’s operation or security.

The text, tables and analysis on this site are ours. Product names, brands and specifications belong to their respective owners and are cited as such.

We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page changes when we do, and continuing to use the site after that means accepting the revised version.
